1. Could you please introduce yourself?

I’m Originally coming from Paris, My name is Ash I started my artistic carrier as a graffiti writer in the early 80ts together with the crew “BBC” or Badbc.

2. If I'm right you belong to the first generation of writers in Paris. Could you tell us about some of the memories that you have from that time?

Back in 1983, I started to hang out in a place called Trocadeo and the neighborhood of Châtelet-Les Halles In Paris. There you could see many sprayed stencils from people like Miss Tick or Bleck le Rat etc… Then because hip hop became very popular, I discovered the New York city graffiti by watching videos and looking at books about the pieces on the New York city subway...

3. What was it like to go from the world of street graffiti writing to that of galleries and exhibitions?

I started to paint outside when I was a teen. Looking for an identity, I liked the thrill and the energy I found there. Also, I like to be in direct contact with the public, it creates a communication that you wouldn’t get by staying all day in a studio or exhibiting in galleries or institutions.

4. Your style is very graphical. But I can see a kind of dialogue between technique and nature in it. Is it your goal to somehow combine these two worlds together? Do you still use the word Ash in your graphics?

My works often revolve around the contrast between country and city, nature and culture. I combine various elements in organic forms that evolve into stylistic, mechanistic figures flowing over the media of my choice. Ash is the name I choose as a graffiti writer, now it symbolizes in general the orientation of my work.

5. Have you been to Prague before? Is there something that you would really like to see? Coherently, do you already have an idea about what you would like to do here?

I haven’t been to Prague before. I am looking forward. I, more or less, try to improvise when I paint outside. It depends on the surroundings.
