KR - graffiti minimalist, he eliminated name from tags and rested only trickling color - on canvas, postbox, building, in the elevator... He makes his own color long since, invented from homemade pen for himself and his friends to the worldwide distribution of the label KRINK.1. Tell us something about your graffiti beginings, please. I wonder it has been in time when graffiti was everywhere. How old were you and who introduced you into this world?
Growing up in NYC graffiti was everywhere. Graffiti was part of the landscape. I grew up around a lot of writers and for a lot of kids graffiti was an early experience with self expression and art.
2. Your work is about drips. Drip as an artform, drip as a character
of your ink-Krink. Where from comes this obsession and when was the first time you did just drip without a tag?
I can't recall the actual date. As I was getting older I became less interested in the sub culture of graffiti. Too many rules, too many haters. I wanted to do other things the drips alone were about using the same methods, but erasing my name. some people knew it was me, most didn't. A lot of regular people saw it and liked it because it wasn't about a name getting up.
3. Do you still go out in night or is it too dangerous after 11. september? Would you start doing graffiti if you were teenager now in this situation?
I don't really write anymore. It's not about 9/11, it's more because I am older and very busy with a lot of other things. Life takes over and I have a lot of bills to pay. Graffiti is a younger men game, I go to bed at 12. I never stay out until 4 anymore.
4. In N.Y.C. there is whole bunch of oldschool writers with their own history which became artists or designers. We have here the hype of streetart with new people and forms. Do you think something is repeating or is it an evolution of the same thing?
It's an evolution. More people are interested in the streets and not just for graffiti. So many people have been touched by graffiti and now street art, I feel it is a natural and good progression.
5. What do you know about Praha? What would you like to see here?
I don't know that much. It was a cold war front. I heard the city is beautiful and Czech women are world famous for their beauty. I enjoy good food, book stores, and art. I would like to have some nice meals, paint some good spots, get some good photos.
